Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas Accompanies Jusuf Kalla on a Visit to Huawei to Strengthen Collaboration Networks in Technology and Innovation
Shenzhen, China – The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin (FT Unhas), Prof. Dr.Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., accompanied the 10th and 12th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Dr. (H.C.) Drs. H. Muhammad Jusuf Kalla, during a visit to the Huawei Shenzhen Headquarters and Huawei Dongguan Campus in China on Monday (September 21, 2026).
The visit was part of a learning and exploration agenda aimed at strengthening potential collaborations between Indonesian universities and global technology industries, particularly in the areas of information technology development, Artificial Intelligence (AI), research and development, and the application of technology across various sectors.
During the visit, Jusuf Kalla and the delegation held discussions with Huawei executives regarding the rapid advancement of technology and opportunities to strengthen cooperation with Indonesian higher education institutions. One of the key opportunities discussed was the potential collaboration between Universitas Hasanuddin and Huawei, particularly in the field of technology research and development.
Jusuf Kalla emphasized the importance of Indonesian universities continuously adapting to global technological developments. According to him, technological advancements, including AI, will become increasingly important elements in society and future development.
The visit was also attended by leaders of engineering faculties from several universities in Makassar who are members of the Indonesian Forum of Engineering Deans (FDTI) in Makassar. In addition to Universitas Hasanuddin, the delegation included representatives from Universitas Negeri Makassar (UNM), UIN Alauddin Makassar, Universitas Muslim Indonesia (UMI), Universitas Bosowa (Unibos), Universitas Islam Makassar (UIM), and Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar (Unismuh), along with other university leaders.
Dean of FT Unhas, Prof. Muhammad Isran Ramli, stated that the visit provided an important opportunity for higher education institutions, especially engineering faculties, to directly observe how technological advancement is developed through an ecosystem that connects research, innovation, education, and industry.
“This visit provided valuable insights for us, particularly on how higher education institutions must respond to the rapid development of technology. The Faculty of Engineering should not only follow technological progress but also actively contribute through research, innovation, human resource development, and stronger collaboration with industry,” said Prof. Isran.
According to him, the experience of observing Huawei’s technology ecosystem firsthand also became an important momentum to strengthen the direction of engineering education development, making it more adaptive to digital transformation and the advancement of AI.
“What we observed at Huawei demonstrates the importance of strong connectivity between universities, research institutions, and industries. This is one of the key aspects that we need to continue developing at FT Unhas, including creating opportunities for international collaboration that can provide tangible benefits for lecturers, students, and innovation development within the Faculty of Engineering,” he added.
Prof. Isran also highlighted the strategic value of the participation of engineering faculty leaders from various universities in Makassar. Beyond learning about global technological developments, the activity served as a platform to strengthen communication and synergy among engineering faculties in responding to increasingly rapid technological changes.
The collaboration among engineering faculties is expected to grow beyond knowledge exchange, extending into joint initiatives in education, research, innovation, human resource capacity building, and partnerships with industry.
For the Faculty of Engineering Universitas Hasanuddin, this visit aligns with its commitment to expanding international partnership networks and strengthening an education, research, and innovation ecosystem that is responsive to future technological developments.
