In Support of Coastal Environmental Conservation, the Unhas Faculty of Engineering Plants 6,000 Mangrove Saplings

As a gesture of concern for the coastal environment, the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University organized an event titled “Go Green 6000 Mangrove.” Members of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering community planted mangrove seedlings in Lakkang Village, Tallo Subdistrict, Makassar, on Saturday (October 10).

During an interview, the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships at the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering, Ir. Mukti Ali, ST., MT., Ph.D., explained that this activity, in addition to being a demonstration of concern for the coastal environment, is also part of a series of events celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering.

“We collaborated with the Jeneberang Saddang Watershed and Protected Forest Management Agency to provide 6,000 mangrove saplings. Through this initiative, we hope Lakkang Village can become an agrotourism destination,” explained Mukti.

The residents of Lakkang Village warmly welcomed the initiative by the Unhas Faculty of Engineering. This was evident from the enthusiasm of the local community, who joined together to plant the mangroves.

The mangrove planting activity was also combined with the distribution of 6,000 masks as a measure to prevent the spread of the ongoing pandemic.

The event, supported by the Unhas Engineering Alumni Association, the Indonesian Engineers Association (PII), and Bank BNI, proceeded smoothly. Moving forward, the Unhas Faculty of Engineering will conduct other activities as part of the series of events celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering.
