Safeguarding the Integrity of the National Mining Sector: The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Partners with the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University to Drive the Standardization of Competencies for Mining Supervisors in Indonesia
The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT Unhas) has once again reaffirmed its outstanding reputation on the national stage as a trusted institution of higher education in strengthening government governance. On Thursday (July 2), at the Center of Technology (CoT) on the FT Unhas Gowa Campus, a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources of the Republic of Indonesia (Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources) officially discussed plans for cooperation in drafting exam questions for the National Selection for the Functional Position of Mining Supervisor.
The visit by the ministry team—represented by Cassina Nova S, Ade Riska Ameliya, Brigitta Isworo Wulan, and Muztafidatun Nihayah, was received directly by the Associate Dean for Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Alumni at FT Unhas, Prof. Ir. Muhammad Bachtiar Nappu, S.T., M.T., M.Phil., Ph.D.
This strategic collaboration mandates the FT Unhas to formulate 700 Computer-Assisted Test (CAT) questions. This instrument will serve as a determining factor in the Field Competency Selection (SKB) for Civil Service Candidate (CPNS) applicants and the Technical Competency Selection for Government Employees under a Work Agreement (PPPK) within the Ministry. The test questions will focus on the management and implementation of mining operations, comprehensively integrating various academic disciplines, ranging from Materials Engineering and Geodesy/Geomatics to Mining Economics.
“Through the development of these comprehensive test questions, we are building a stronger foundation for the national mining sector by selecting reliable mining supervisors,” said Prof. Bachtiar Nappu in response to this collaboration initiative. He emphasized that the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas is fully committed to finalizing the technical proposal, work timeline, and an accountable financial management scheme in a timely manner in accordance with the ministry’s targets.
To ensure the highest academic standards, the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas has appointed Prof. Dr. Ir. Irzal Nur, MT., a senior academic from the Mining Engineering Study Program, as the Coordinator for Test Item Development. Under his coordination, the expert team formed will ensure that every item in the test instrument meets the standards of validity, reliability, and objectivity.
During the interactive meeting, both parties finalized crucial technical points. Discussions covered the proposed cost estimates, the work schedule (timeline), the formation of the expert team, and an accountable payment scheme through a self-managed mechanism. The technical draft is targeted for completion no later than July 9, 2026, to meet the schedule for the integration of the national test item bank by the State Civil Service Agency (BKN).
This trust serves as tangible recognition of the research and academic capabilities of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering. The integration of various disciplines in the development of these exam questions is expected to help identify civil servants who are technically competent and adaptable to the dynamics of modern industry.
Furthermore, rigorous oversight in the natural resources sector is expected to ensure that the management of Indonesia’s natural resources adheres to regulations and ultimately leads to the prosperity of the people. This strategic step also reinforces the FT Unhas’s vision as a driving force for national development through the implementation of the three pillars of higher education—which are innovative, collaborative, and have a direct impact on society.
