The Faculty of Engineering at Unhas and Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University Sign a Memorandum of Understanding for a Master’s Degree Program in Mining Engineering
Makassar, June 11, 2026—The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT Unhas) and the Faculty of Engineering at Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University (Unazlam) in Palu officially signed a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) regarding the implementation of a joint Master’s (S2) in Mining Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, as a follow-up to the Memorandum of Understanding and Memorandum of Agreement previously agreed upon by both institutions.
This collaboration aims to improve the quality of human resources in the fields of science and technology through the implementation of a Master’s program in Mining Engineering for lecturers and academic staff at the Faculty of Engineering, Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University. This program is designed as a collaborative program that provides access to and specialized educational services in accordance with the academic standards of Hasanuddin University.
On this occasion, the Associate Dean for Partnerships, Research, Innovation, and Alumni at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, Prof. Muhammad Bachtiar Nappu, Ph.D., emphasized that this collaboration is a pilot project that is expected to serve as a model for human resource development collaboration among universities in eastern Indonesia.
According to him, this program not only focuses on improving participants’ academic qualifications but also on building mutually beneficial institutional relationships between the two institutions.
“We view this collaboration as a pilot project with strategic value. The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University is here to share its experience, academic capacity, and resources, while the Faculty of Engineering at Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University provides its faculty members with the opportunity to enhance their competencies through a master’s degree program. This is a true form of mutualistic symbiosis, where both institutions grow and develop together,” said Prof. Bachtiar.
He further explained that the success of this program is expected to serve as a model for the development of similar collaborative courses in other study programs as well as with other partner universities in the future.
“We want to prove that collaboration between universities does not merely end with the signing of a cooperation agreement, but can produce tangible impacts in the form of enhanced human resource capacity, strengthened academic networks, and the emergence of various opportunities for collaboration in the fields of education, research, and community service,” he added.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University, Dr. Ir. H. Sukardan Tawil, M.T., expressed his appreciation to the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University for its commitment to supporting the improvement of faculty quality through continuing education programs.
He explained that this collaboration is an important step in strengthening the academic capacity of the Mining Engineering Program at Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University, which is still growing.
“This collaboration is part of our efforts to improve the quality and competence of human resources within the Faculty of Engineering at Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University. Through this program, 15 faculty members and academic staff from the field of Mining Engineering will pursue their education in the Master’s Program in Mining Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University,” explained Dr. Sukardan.
He hopes that the participants in this program will successfully complete their studies and eventually contribute to strengthening the quality of education, research, and institutional development at Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University.
Based on the MoU that was signed, this collaborative program will be conducted over four semesters, or a two-year study period, with a learning mechanism that adheres to the academic regulations of the Master’s Program at Hasanuddin University. In addition to conducting classes, both institutions also agreed to conduct periodic evaluations to ensure the quality of the program’s implementation and to open opportunities for future collaboration in other fields.
Through the signing of this MoU, the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University and the Faculty of Engineering at Abdul Aziz Lamadjido University reaffirm their shared commitment to improving the quality of higher education, strengthening human resource capacity, and expanding academic partnership networks that benefit both institutions and the broader community.
