Unhas Computer Science Students Showcase RPL Innovations at the 2025 Software Engineering Project Expo
Makassar, June 20, 2025 — The Department of Computer Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University, once again demonstrated its innovative spirit by hosting the 2025 Software Engineering Project (RPL) Expo. The expo was held in the Exhibition Hall on the first floor of the Center of Technology (COT) building at the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering (FT-UH) on Friday afternoon and served as a platform for students to showcase digital technology projects resulting from their project-based learning.
The event began with opening remarks from Prof. Dr. Indrabayu, ST., M.Sc., Ph.D., Chair of the Department of Computer Engineering at FT-UH, who noted that this expo marks the culmination of the Software Engineering Project course. He emphasized that students are expected not only to be able to write code but also to design solutions relevant to real-world societal challenges. The learning approach implemented in this department emphasizes a combination of technical skills, team collaboration, and innovative approaches to problem-solving.
The next opening remarks were delivered by Dr. Fauzi Rahman Rahim, S.E., M.Si., CFP., AEPP., Director of the Technology Business Incubation and Science Techno Park (STP) at Hasanuddin University. In his remarks, he commended the quality of the students’ work and expressed STP Unhas’s commitment to bridging innovative ideas from the campus to the industrial world through incubation programs and ongoing mentoring.
The expo was officially opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas, Prof. Dr.Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, ST., MT., IPM., AER., who emphasized in his remarks that innovation cannot be confined to the classroom. He underscored the importance of fostering a productive, collaborative, and solution-oriented academic culture in response to technological advancements and real-world needs. Furthermore, he stated that support for activities like this will continue to be strengthened as part of the FT-UH’s strategy to nurture students who are ready to create, not merely to follow.
This event was made possible thanks to the support and collaboration of various parties, including the Center for Information Technology and Digitalization (Pustekno) of the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering, which provided technical support and encouraged the integration of digital technology into academic activities.
In addition to members of the Department of Computer Engineering, the expo was also attended by internal stakeholders from Hasanuddin University, such as Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Nizwar, M.Eng., Director of the Consultation and Cooperation Unit (UKK Unhas), and Prof. Dr. Rustan Tarakka, ST., M.T., Third Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas. Also present were course instructors, the internal evaluation team, and program administrators.
From external parties, the event was attended by representatives from the Makassar City Research, Development, and Planning Agency (Bapelitbangda), the leadership of the Makassar Academy of Industrial Engineering (ATIM), representatives from the VII/Wirabuana Military Command (Kodam), as well as a number of industry partners active in the fields of information technology and digitalization. Interestingly, the event was also attended by high school students from various schools in Makassar City and Gowa Regency, as part of a program to introduce them to the world of higher education and foster a spirit of innovation from an early age.
A variety of prototypes were showcased at this expo, ranging from public service applications, education and health information systems, to platforms based on artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and blockchain technology. All projects were developed in teams, through a process that spanned needs analysis, system design, software development, testing, and technical documentation.
More than just an academic assessment, this event also served as an interactive space for students, faculty, campus stakeholders, industry partners, and prospective freshmen. Open discussions, feedback from practitioners, and the enthusiasm of visitors demonstrated that the works of Unhas Computer Science students are not only technically compelling but also relevant and have the potential for broader implementation.
As a program that has earned international accreditation from ASIIN (Germany) and national accreditation from LAM INFOKOM, the Department of Computer Science at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Hasanuddin, continues to strengthen its position as a center of excellence in digital technology innovation in Eastern Indonesia. This expo serves as tangible proof that Unhas Computer Science students not only master theory and technical skills but are also ready to become pioneers of digital solutions that have a positive impact on society and the industrial world.
