12 Mechanical Engineering Students Attend Orientation and Send-Off Ceremony for Japan International Internship Participants
Hasanuddin University, through its Independent Learning Team, held an orientation and send-off ceremony for participants in the Japan International Internship Program for students in the Mechanical Engineering and Information Systems programs. This event is part of the university’s efforts to support the development of students’ global competencies through learning and working experiences in an international industrial setting.
The orientation was officially opened by the Head of the Sub-Directorate of Independent Learning, Prof. Makkarennu, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D. The event was also attended by the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr.Eng. Hendra Pachri, ST., M.Eng., the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dr. Muhammad Syahid, ST., MT., the Associate Dean for Academic and Student Affairs of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Dr. Khaeruddin, M.Sc., the Head of the Information Systems Study Program, and the Hasanuddin University Independent Learning Team.
A total of 14 students will participate in an international internship program in Japan. Of this number, 12 students from the Mechanical Engineering Program will complete their internships at Y-Tech Co., Ltd., while 2 students from the Information Systems Program will be placed at Daikyo Nishikawa.
In his remarks, the Deputy Director of Independent Learning stated that the international internship program is a valuable opportunity for students to develop professional competencies, enhance their ability to adapt to a global work environment, and broaden their understanding of international culture and industry.
Following the opening session, the event continued with a presentation on health, workplace safety, and well-being for the international interns in Japan. This session was led by the Deputy Director of Health, Occupational Safety, and Well-being, Prof. Dr. Lalu Muhammad Saleh, SKM., M.Kes. In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of applying occupational safety principles, maintaining physical and mental health, and understanding rights and responsibilities while participating in an overseas internship program.
The next session was led by Prof. Makkarennu, S.Hut., M.Si., Ph.D., who discussed readiness for adaptation, program implementation, and the reporting mechanisms for internship activities. During this session, participants were briefed on the challenges they might face while in Japan, strategies for adapting to the local work culture, and the reporting procedures they must follow throughout the program.
Through this orientation, it is hoped that all international internship participants will be able to prepare themselves optimally so they can successfully carry out the program, uphold the good reputation of Hasanuddin University, and gain experiences and competencies that will be beneficial for their future career development.
The orientation and send-off event was then concluded by the Deputy Director of Independent Learning with a message urging all participants to take advantage of this opportunity as a means to learn, innovate, and build international networks that can support both their personal development and that of the institution.
