EOS at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore Is Willing to Collaborate with the Department of Geological Engineering at Unhas
On Monday, November 14, 2022, the Department of Geology at the Faculty of Engineering, Hasanuddin University (Unhas), visited Singapore to discuss a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation with the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) and the Asian School of the Environment at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.
The visit was part of the implementation of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering’s International Partnership Network Development Program, which was launched by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr.-Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, ST., MT., IPM, with the aim of enhancing cooperation with overseas partner universities.
Prof. Isran encouraged all study programs within the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas to continue collaborating with overseas partner universities.
NTU is one of Singapore’s leading public universities, ranked 12th in the 2022 QS World University Rankings.
The Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) was founded in 2008 with a mission to conduct fundamental research on earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and climate change in and around Southeast Asia, toward a safer and more sustainable society.
The delegation included Dr. Ir. Rustan Tarakka, ST., MT, Associate Dean for Partnerships, Research, and Innovation at the Faculty of Engineering; Dr. Eng. Hendra Pachri, ST., M.Eng., Chair of the Department of Geological Engineering; Ilham Alimuddin, ST, M.GIS., PhD., Secretary of the Geocomputing and Remote Sensing Laboratory in the Department of Geological Engineering and Head of the Unhas Center for Disaster Studies; and Dr. Ulva Ria Irfan, ST., MT., Chair of the Doctoral Program in Earth Sciences and Secretary of the Petrography Laboratory in the Department of Geological Engineering. The delegation was received by the Director of the Earth Observatory of Singapore – Remote Sensing Laboratory, Asian School of the Environment, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, Associate Professor San-Ho Yun.
During the meeting, Associate Professor San-Ho Yun expressed his appreciation for the International Partnership Network Program of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering and expressed his willingness to collaborate on research and participate in joint international conferences.
He then introduced EOS and the research activities it has conducted in various countries, particularly in Indonesia. Thanks to the research experience gained from the Palu earthquake several years ago, the Sulawesi region has become well-known.
“He was happy to explore opportunities for joint research with Hasanuddin University, particularly in the field of remote sensing, and is ready to support remote sensing mapping technology as well as map products produced by EOS at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore,” said Dr. Eng. Hendra Pachri, ST., M.Eng., Chair of the Department of Geological Engineering at Unhas.
