Gowa Regent Hj. Sitti Husniah Talenrang Motivates 1,618 New Students at the Unhas Faculty of Engineering and Discusses Plans for a Strategic Partnership

Makassar, August 12, 2025 – The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT Unhas) welcomed a visit from the Regent of Gowa, Hj. Sitti Husniah Talenrang, S.E., M.M., who delivered a motivational speech to 1,618 incoming freshmen of the class of 2025.

The Regent of Gowa was personally welcomed by the Dean of FT Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. M. Isran Ramli, M.T., IPM, along with the Chair of the FT Unhas Senate, Prof. Dr. Ir. Salama Manjang, the entire dean’s office leadership, and department heads within FT Unhas. The event took place at the FT Unhas Student Center as part of the FT Unhas New Student Orientation Program (PKKMB).

In his remarks, Prof. Isran expressed appreciation for the presence of the Regent of Gowa, noting that she served as a great source of inspiration for the new students.

> “The presence of the Regent of Gowa marked a special moment for the new students to learn directly from a strong and visionary female leader. Her messages will serve as valuable motivation as they pursue their studies,” he said.

During the session addressing the 2025 FTU freshmen, the Regent of Gowa shared her life experiences, leadership values, and the importance of discipline, integrity, and a commitment to service. She emphasized that success requires a combination of academic ability and strong character.

> “Success is not just about high grades, but also about the willingness to work hard, collaborate, and contribute to society,” said Hj. Sitti Husniah Talenrang to thousands of new students at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Hasanuddin (Unhas).

Shortly after delivering her remarks at the Student Center, the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering presented a commemorative gift to the Regent of Gowa as a token of appreciation for her presence, motivation, and the inspiration she provided to the new students.

During the luncheon, the Regent of Gowa held a brief discussion with the Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., who was accompanied by the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering. This discussion was also attended by the leadership of the FT Unhas Dean’s Office and the Chair of the Unhas Engineering Alumni Association (Ikatek).

The discussion focused on plans for strategic collaboration between FT Unhas and the Gowa Regency Government, particularly to ensure that the FT Unhas campus in Bontomarannu can have a tangible impact on improving the welfare of the community and development across various sectors in Gowa Regency.

This collaboration is expected to encompass the fields of infrastructure, human resource development, technological innovation, and community empowerment, so that synergy between the university and the local government can be optimally realized.
