To Expand Its Partnership Network, the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University Signs a Memorandum of Agreement with the Makassar City Fisheries and Marine Resources Agency (BPSPL).
The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University has once again expanded its partnership network. This time, the Faculty of Engineering has entered into a collaboration with the Makassar City Coastal and Marine Resources Management Agency. This collaboration was formalized with the signing of a Cooperation Agreement on Monday, May 20, 2024, in the 3rd-floor conference room of the CoT Building at the Faculty of Engineering in Gowa.
The signing was conducted by the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN. Eng., and the Head of the Makassar City Coastal and Marine Resources Management Center, Yudiarso, S.T., M.T. In addition, this collaboration was also attended by the Associate Dean for Partnerships, Research, and Innovation, Prof. Dr. Ir. Rustan Tarakka, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN. Eng., the Chair of the Department of Ocean Engineering, Dr. Ir. Chairul Paotonan, S.T., M.T., the Secretary of the Department of Ocean Engineering, Dr. Hasdinar Umar, S.T., M.T., faculty members from the Department of Ocean Engineering, the Head of the Administrative Division, as well as the Deputy Heads of Sections and staff from the Faculty of Engineering, and staff from the Makassar City BPSPL.
In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering stated that this collaboration is a manifestation of the Faculty of Engineering’s mission—specifically, to establish a network of collaborative activities in support of the Tridharma of Higher Education, such as student internships and research collaborations for faculty members. Prof. Isran also expressed his hope that this collaboration would not be limited to just one or two activities but would continue to develop in the future.
Meanwhile, the Head of the Makassar City BPSPL noted that the Ministry is also required to engage in collaborations—not only with other government agencies but also with academics, practitioners, civil society organizations, and the media—and that this event represents one such implementation. This was followed by a presentation on the BPSPL’s profile and the collaboration goals to be achieved.
Chairul Paotonan, Head of the Department of Marine Engineering, noted that collaboration between BPSPL Makassar and the Department of Marine Engineering has, in practice, already been in place for some time. Examples include the involvement of faculty members from the Department of Marine Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Hasanuddin (Unhas), as resource persons and technical team members in training workshops and in the evaluation of documents related to the issuance of permits for the use of marine space. BPSPL Makassar has long served as an internship destination for Marine Engineering students. The Department of Marine Engineering also involves BPSPL Makassar staff as practicing lecturers. BPSPL staff are also active as authors in the Department of Marine Engineering’s Annual National Seminar and in the department’s journal. For these reasons, BPSPL Makassar and the Unhas Faculty of Engineering—through the Department of Marine Engineering—are formalizing the long-standing collaboration into a mutually binding and beneficial Cooperation Agreement (PKS).
This cooperation agreement aims to support the strengthening of human resources, community service, and development related to the management of coastal and marine resources within the operational area of BPSPL Makassar.
The scope of this collaboration includes education, empowerment, and the improvement of human resources; community service related to coastal and marine resource management; the utilization of facilities and infrastructure; as well as seminars and scientific publications.
