Unhas’s Faculty of Engineering Holds Certification Exams and Additional Competency Training for Recent Graduates

Makassar — The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT-UH), in collaboration with the Makassar Regional Construction Services Office (Balai Jasa Konstruksi Wilayah VI) and the South Sulawesi Provincial Department of Public Works and Construction, is holding a program to provide additional competencies and Level 7 certification exams for recent graduates in the fields of Civil Engineering and Architectural Engineering. The event took place over 5 days, from May 5 to 9, 2025, and was held at two locations: the South Sulawesi Provincial Department of Public Works and Construction and the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University.

The opening ceremony was held on Monday, May 5, 2025, at the Department of Public Works and Construction and was attended by the Head of the Makassar Region IV Construction Services Office and the Head of the Department of Public Works and Construction.

This activity is part of the implementation of the law on construction services and a circular from the Directorate General of Construction regarding the issuance of PKT to graduates and prospective graduates of vocational schools, polytechnics, and universities in the field of construction. The aim is to meet the demand for qualified and skilled construction workers, particularly in South Sulawesi, in line with labor needs in the construction sector. Level 7 certification is recognition of the entry-level professional competencies required by new graduates to contribute directly to various national infrastructure projects.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering expressed appreciation for the collaboration between the education sector, the government, and the certification body, which made this event possible. “We at the Unhas Faculty of Engineering would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation for the implementation of this activity and this partnership, as it is crucial for our graduates. We hope the participants will take this program seriously, as it is also essential for our graduates to use this expert competency certification as a foundation for entering the workforce,” he said.

The certification exam, which will take place over five days, involves certified instructors who have previously completed a Training of Trainers program. The event was attended by dozens of participants, consisting of alumni from the Civil Engineering and Architecture programs.

This initiative is expected to become a sustainable program aimed at supporting the development of high-quality human resources in the construction sector in Eastern Indonesia, particularly in South Sulawesi Province.
