Four Female Full Professors at the Faculty of Engineering Officially Installed

Hasanuddin University (Unhas) recently appointed four female faculty members from the Faculty of Engineering as full professors during an official ceremony on Thursday, May 15, 2025. This appointment marks a special milestone, as all the newly appointed professors are women, reflecting the progress of women’s roles in academia, particularly in the field of engineering.

Four New Full Professors at the Unhas Faculty of Engineering:

  1. Prof. Dr. Ir. Sri Mawar Said, M.T.
  2. Full Professor in the field of Power Plant Operations Management from the Department of Electrical Engineering.
  3. Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Rita Irmawaty, S.T., M.T.
  4. Full Professor in the field of Construction Materials Technology from the Department of Civil Engineering.
  5. Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Intan Sari Areni, S.T., M.T., IPU.
  6. Full Professor in the field of Telecommunications and Multimedia Processing from the Department of Electrical Engineering.
  7. Prof. Dr. Ir. Ulva Ria Irvan, S.T., M.T., IPM.
  8. Full Professor in the field of Rock Geochemistry from the Department of Geological Engineering.

The inauguration ceremony took place in the Academic Senate Room on the 2nd floor of the Unhas Rectorate Building, Tamalanrea Campus, Makassar, and was presided over by the Chair of the Unhas Council of Professors, Prof. Dr. Pangerang Moenta, S.H., M.H., D.F.M. The Rector of Unhas, Prof. Dr. Ir. Jamaluddin Jompa, M.Sc., expressed his appreciation for this achievement and referred to the new professors as the “Srikandis of the Faculty of Engineering,” embodying the strength, courage, independence, intelligence, and leadership of women in the academic world.

Each professor delivered an inaugural lecture in their respective fields of expertise, discussing topics such as power plant development, waste-based construction materials, inclusive technology in telecommunications, and the role of geochemistry in sustainable development.

With these appointments, the number of full professors at Unhas has increased, demonstrating the university’s commitment to advancing academic progress and promoting women’s active roles in science and technology.
