To Strengthen Bilateral Ties Between Japan and Indonesia in the Field of Education, the Japanese Consul General in Makassar Met with the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at UNHAS

During his working visit to Gowa Regency on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, the Head of the Japanese Consulate General (Consular) in Makassar, Mr. Ohashi Koichi, took the time to visit the UNHAS Faculty of Engineering campus in Bontomarannu, Gowa Regency, South Sulawesi. The Japanese Consul General was warmly welcomed by the Dean of the UNHAS Faculty of Engineering along with other members of the FT UNHAS leadership.

The Dean of the UNHAS Faculty of Engineering, Prof. M. Isran Ramli, along with his staff—after greeting the Japanese Consul General upon his arrival at the Twin Towers Plaza (CoT Building–CSA Building) on the UNHAS Faculty of Engineering campus—immediately escorted the Consul General to the Dean’s Lounge on the 3rd floor of the CoT Building for an audience.

During this meeting, Koichi Ohashi was accompanied by two staff members from the Japanese Consular Office in Makassar, while the Dean of the FTUH was accompanied by the Vice Dean for Planning, Human Resources, and Alumni Affairs (Dr.Eng. Muhammad Rusman), the Vice Dean for Research, Innovation, and Partnerships (Dr. Rustan Tarakka), the Head of the FTUH Pustekno-CoT (Dr.Eng. M. Ramli), the Manager of Scientific Publications at FTUH (Dr.Eng. Achmad Yasir Baeda), and the Chair of the FTUH Competency Testing Center (TUK) (Dr.Eng. Bambang Bakri).

In his opening remarks, the Japanese Consul General introduced himself as the new Japanese Consul General in Makassar, who has been in office since March 2023, and requested the support of the entire FTUH academic community to ensure the smooth execution of his duties as the Japanese Consul General in Makassar.

The Dean of FTUH, Prof. Isran Ramli, reciprocated his appreciation for the Japanese Consul General’s visit to the FTUH campus in Gowa, which was built through a cooperation project between the Japanese and Indonesian governments. In his remarks, Prof. Isran outlined the management of the FTUH campus from both academic and non-academic perspectives. Prof. Isran noted that the majority of FTUH faculty members are alumni of various universities in Japan. Consequently, numerous partnership activities in the fields of research and education are carried out by FTUH faculty and students in collaboration with faculty members at Japanese universities. To that end, Prof. Isran expressed his hope that the relationship between the two parties—the Japanese Consulate General in Makassar and the UNHAS Faculty of Engineering—would grow even stronger.

After the meeting, the Japanese Consul General took the time to visit several buildings and educational facilities on the FT UNHAS campus in Gowa, including the Pustekno CoT Office, the Classroom Building, the Department of Architecture Building, and the Exhibition Hall. Before leaving the UNHAS Faculty of Engineering campus, the Japanese Consul General expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and expressed his hope that the Japanese Consulate in Makassar and the UNHAS Faculty of Engineering campus in Gowa would continue to strengthen their relationship by contributing to the enhancement of bilateral ties between Japan and Indonesia in the field of education.
