Unhas’s Faculty of Engineering Strengthens Industry Collaboration Through a Strategic Visit to Batam
Batam, February 7–8, 2026 – The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (FT Unhas) conducted a collaborative visit to several companies in the shipbuilding, manufacturing, and automation industries in Batam, Riau Islands. This activity represents a strategic step toward strengthening synergy between the university and the industrial sector to enhance the relevance of graduates to the needs of the workforce.
The visit included stops at three industry partners: PT PaxOcean, PT Vortex Energy Batam, and PT National Marine Construction (PT Namco). This initiative is part of the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education, specifically in the areas of education, research, and community service.
The delegation was led by the Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, S.T., M.T., IPM., ASEAN.Eng., accompanied by associate deans, university leaders, and representatives from the Center for Technology (CoT), with a total of 13 participants.

Visit Results
PT PaxOcean
PT PaxOcean is a company engaged in shipbuilding, ship repair, and new ship construction. During this visit, company management presented the company’s profile, scope of operations, and the implementation of operational and occupational safety standards.
The meeting identified opportunities for collaboration in the form of internship programs, industrial work placements for students, alumni recruitment, applied research collaboration in the field of maritime technology, and competency development through guest lectures and joint training.
PT Vortex Energy Batam
PT Vortex Energy Batam operates in the fields of Special Purpose Machinery (SPM) services and technology, factory automation, robotics, didactic-based educational systems, and renewable energy. During the meeting, company representatives presented developments in technological innovation and workforce competency needs aligned with industry trends.
The outcomes of this visit were formalized in a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) covering educational collaboration (internships, fieldwork placements, and industry visits), research and innovation, human resource development through guest lectures and training, and curriculum alignment with industry needs.
PT National Marine Construction (PT Namco)
PT Namco is a company focused on manufacturing and support services for the shipbuilding and maritime industries. This visit provided an overview of production processes, quality management systems, and opportunities for human resource development.
The outcomes of this meeting were formalized in a Cooperation Agreement (PKS) covering internship programs, graduate recruitment, expertise-based community service collaborations, and competency development activities through seminars and training.

Through this visit, the Unhas Faculty of Engineering reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with the industrial sector as part of its efforts to prepare outstanding, adaptable, and competitive graduates.
