Unhas’s Faculty of Engineering Successfully Hosts MOC for the Second Time
The Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University (Unhas) successfully hosted the 2021 Millennial Online Competition (MOC). The closing ceremony took place on Wednesday (June 9) at the Center of Technology Building and was held virtually.
MOC is a national competition organized by the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas. This year, the event was themed “Technological Innovation in Optimizing Recovery from the COVID-19 Pandemic.” The competition categories included essay writing, scientific posters, creative videos, and photography.
Committee Chair Dr. Eng. Fakhruddin, ST., M.Eng., reported that this year’s event was attended by 237 participants from 35 universities across Indonesia. The essay competition had 112 participants, the inspirational poster competition had 63 participants, the photography competition had 49 participants, and the creative video competition had 13 participants.
The Associate Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships at the Faculty of Engineering, Mukti Ali, ST., MT., Ph.D., explained that the idea for this event originated during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. At that time, student activities faced significant challenges, as various student events across Indonesia had come to a halt. Through discussions held with student mentors from the Faculty of Engineering, the Millennial Online Competition (MOC) was conceived.
“Everyone hopes that the distinctive nature of the MOC will be maintained as an online event even after the pandemic has ended. Given the participants’ high level of enthusiasm, the Student Affairs Division of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering will strive to hold this event annually,” explained Mukti.
The event was officially closed by the Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni at Unhas, Prof. Dr. drg. A. Arsunan Arsin, M.Kes. In his remarks, he expressed his full appreciation to the Faculty of Engineering for providing a platform for student activities.
“Last year, nearly all student activities came to a standstill due to the pandemic. However, the Faculty of Engineering successfully launched the first MOC event. I hope this event can serve as a role model for other student activities,” explained Prof. Arsunan.
The MOC is expected to hone students’ critical thinking skills in developing innovative technologies that demonstrate the synergy among millennials as they navigate the post-pandemic recovery from COVID-19 while continuing to contribute from home for the benefit of Indonesia.
