Unhas’s Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Unit Holds “Mental Health is a Priority” Technical Training Workshop; the Faculty of Engineering Hosts the Event

Gowa, May 6, 2025 — In an effort to raise awareness about the importance of mental health in the workplace, the Occupational Safety and Health (K3) Division of Hasanuddin University (Unhas) organized a technical training session titled “Mental Health is a Priority”. The event took place at the Unhas Faculty of Engineering and was attended by dozens of participants from various faculties and departments at Unhas.

The one-day event featured a distinguished speaker in the field of mental health: Psychiatrist Dr. Dr. Sonny T. Lisal, Sp.KJ, Subsp. B.P.(K). In his opening remarks, the Head of the Unhas K3K Subdirectorate, Prof. Dr. Lalu Muhammad Saleh, S.T., M.Eng., stated that this event is part of an effort to improve the quality of work life for the entire Unhas academic community.

“Mental health is an issue we must address together. Currently, we are seeing an increasing number of cases related to mental disorders; therefore, we must foster awareness that workplace health is not just about physical well-being but also mental health—by creating a space that is more empathetic, open, and supportive of one another,” said Prof. Lalu.

The Director of Human Resources at Unhas, Prof. Dr. dr. Idar Mappangara, Sp.PD., Sp.JP.(K), also emphasized the importance of creating a comfortable and safe work environment at Unhas.

“We are aiming for zero accidents and want to make Unhas the most comfortable workplace, both physically and psychologically,” said Dr. Idar.

Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Human Resources (HR), Alumni, and Information Systems, Prof. Dr. Farida Patittingi, S.H., M.Hum., noted that mental health plays a crucial role in fostering work morale.

“Mental health issues are often overlooked in the workplace, even though they significantly impact productivity and comfort. “Mental health must be a priority, not something to be taken lightly,” said Prof. Farida.

The Dean of the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, ST., MT., IPM., AER., who also served as the host of this event, expressed his appreciation for the selection of the Faculty of Engineering as the venue. “Welcome to the Faculty of Engineering here in Gowa. As the host, we are proud to be part of such an important event. Hopefully, the material presented will broaden perspectives and help create a healthier and more comfortable work environment for everyone,” he said.

The training workshop included informational sessions and interactive discussions. Participants were also invited to share their experiences regarding the mental health challenges they face in their respective work environments.

Through this event, Unhas’s Occupational Safety and Health (K3) unit hopes to spark a broader movement toward creating a work culture that supports mental health across all levels of the university.
