International Student from Iraq Completes Thesis on Urban Traffic Engineering Management in Baghdad and Officially Graduates from the Masters Program in Civil Engineering at FT Unhas
Makassar, 2025 — The Transportation Engineering Lecturer Group (Kelompok Keahlian Dosen – KKD) of the Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Hasanuddin (FT-UH) continues to contribute actively in nurturing and graduating high-quality international students. One of its international students, Ahmed Safaa Dawood, has successfully completed his thesis examination and graduation judicium in the Master’s Program in Civil Engineering. Ahmed is a postgraduate student from the Republic of Iraq, focusing on transportation engineering during his studies at Universitas Hasanuddin.
Ahmed's thesis is titled “Improvement of Traffic Flow on Arterials in Mansour City, Baghdad in Iraq by Using Micro-Simulation Model”. The research focuses on urban traffic engineering management, specifically in addressing severe traffic congestion in the Central Business District (CBD) of Mansour, Baghdad. Using the SIDRA 8 microsimulation software, the study modeled existing traffic conditions at the four-legged Al-Liqa’a intersection and tested several improvement scenarios.
The thesis examination was conducted in person at the KKD Transportation Engineering Seminar Room, Department of Civil Engineering FT-UH. The thesis supervisory team consisted of Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Sakti Adji Adisasmita, M.Eng., IPU. as Main Supervisor, and Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, M.T., IPU. as Co-Supervisor. The examining committee included Prof. Dr. Ir. Sumarni Hamid Aly, M.T., IPU. and Dr. Eng. Muralia Hustim, S.T., M.T.
Upon successfully defending his thesis, Ahmed was declared graduated and awarded the academic degree of Magister Teknik (M.T.). The Graduation Judicium was subsequently held, chaired by Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Muhammad Isran Ramli, M.T., IPU., as the Head of the KKD Transportation Engineering FT-UH. Prof. Isran officially announced the graduation result and congratulated Ahmed as an international graduate of the Master’s Program in Civil Engineering.
