To Become HSE Ambassadors, 14 Engineering Students from Hasanuddin University Received ASEAN Engineering Student Safety Certificates from AFEO

To cultivate occupational safety and health ambassadors among students at the Unhas Faculty of Engineering, the Unhas Faculty of Engineering collaborated with the Central Executive Board of PII (Indonesian Engineers Association) to enroll 14 Unhas Faculty of Engineering students in the “Safety Training for Engineering Students” program, which was conducted by CAFEO on November 17–20, 2023, at the Udayana University campus in in Bali. This initiative is part of the Faculty of Engineering’s ongoing efforts to foster a culture of HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) on the Faculty of Engineering campus in Gowa.

The “Safety Training for ASEAN Engineering Students” program was attended by 40 students from various engineering campuses across Indonesia, with the Faculty of Engineering at Unhas fielding the largest number of participants.

Dr. Muchlisin, Chair of the Training Organizing Committee from PII & AFEO, stated that the training topics included safety systems engineering, toxic chemical disasters, personal protective equipment and decontamination procedures, safety in civil engineering construction, risk analysis, initial response actions, and detection instruments. The training also included technical visits to the Jasamarga Bali Toll Bridge and the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. The training speakers were engineering safety experts from PII and AFEO.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Hasanuddin University, during his working visit to attend the PII National Executive Meeting—which was held in conjunction with the 41st AFEO Conference at the UNUD campus in Bali—also took the opportunity to personally observe the implementation of the training and the participation of 14 FT Unhas students in the program. Prof. Isran advised the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering students participating in the training that, after successfully completing this AFEO safety training, they should be willing to serve as HSE ambassadors among the student body of the Hasanuddin University Faculty of Engineering by sharing the knowledge and skills gained during the training with other students in the faculty.
